The Manual Exercise Input feature makes it possible to input exercise data manually in the Firstbeat Sports Cloud. This allows complete data collection for individual athletes and teams when you can't record a session or workout. Both coaches and athletes can manually add data.
The Manual Exercise Input feature estimates TRIMP based on the session duration and estimated intensity data you enter. To ensure maximum accuracy, estimated TRIMP takes into account over 1.2 million training measurements from the Firstbeat Sports database, as well as fatigue during longer sessions, and the nature of team sessions that include intervals and breaks.
Consistent recording of athlete training data improves Acute and Chronic Training Load, ACWR, and Training Status feedback. Manually adding exercise data means you won’t be left with gaps in your dataset.
Because manually added exercise data don’t have actual measurement data (HR data) heart rate-related variables are not available. The following variables are added to Manual Exercise Input data:
-
Start time
-
End time
-
Duration
-
TRIMP
-
TRIMP/min
-
Chronic Training Load
-
Acute Training Load
-
ACWR (Acute vs Chronic ratio)
-
Training Status

Manual Exercise Input is a Firstbeat Sports Premium and Premium+ feature.
Adding an exercise manually
Exercises can be added manually for single athletes or for all team athletes at the same time.
To add exercise data manually:
-
Select the date from the dashboard chart or from the date selector
-
Select the team or athlete depending if you want to add an exercise manually for one or many athletes
-
Click the “+” button under the main chart to open the menu. Select “Add manual exercise”
Next, add the required information in the Manual Exercise Input screen.
Add start and end times for the exercise. Duration is calculated automatically. Add sport type if you wish.
Estimate the training load based on a 1-10 scale. A TRIMP value is added to athletes based on the estimate. Click the “How to rate exercise intensity” text to open a help screen to pick the right intensity level.
Select the athletes you want to add the exercise for. Adjust the estimates, if needed.
Finally, click save on the top right corner of the screen.
Adjusting or deleting exercises
Open the specific exercise to delete it or to make adjustments. Single exercise editing can be accessed when a single athlete is selected (not a team) or from the session ranking table (when a session including manually added exercises is selected). Click the cogwheel icon to open an edit dialog. Adjust TRIMP value or use the trashcan button to remove the exercise.
Limitations
It's not possible to add exercises to the future date or time.
It’s not possible to add exercise data if an athlete already has measurement data at the selected time.
Variables that need heart rate data are not available for manually input exercises. In addition, training reports can’t be created for manually input exercises.
Manually input exercises are available in Data Export and via the Sports Cloud API but, since actual measurement data is not recorded, heart rate-related variables are not available.
A session is automatically created for manually input exercises. Currently, adding measurements (HR data) and manually input exercises to the same training session is not possible. Neither is adjusting a session with manually input exercises.
