We have identified a problem with the Sports Monitor and some Windows PCs that prevents the Sports Monitor to start normally. Instead of starting normally the software will not open and gives error messages about missing dll files.
Why do I get this error:
This error appears if the Windows operating system is not compatible with one of the DLL files used for developing the Sports Monitor software. The file is located in the Sports Monitor's installation folder. That file is used for the graphics in Sports Monitor and it is not crucial for the software to run. This error can reappear when the Sports Monitor software is updated.
How does the error affects me:
When the error appears, the Sports Monitor will not start and Windows gives an error message about a missing DLL file. The error message usually contains this text: "The program can't start because api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-l1-2-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem". Here is an example picture of the error.
Closing the error message only makes it pop back up again. The Sports Monitor software needs to be forced to quit with Windows Task Manager.
How to fix this problem
You don't need to reinstall the software, as that does not fix the problem. Instead of reinstalling you need to remove the incompatible development file from the computer located in the Sports Monitor's installation folder. Below you can find detailed instructions how to fix the problem. Follow these to safely remove the incompatible file:
- Shut down Sports Monitor from the Windows Task Manager, and make sure that it is NOT running.
- Go to the Sports Monitor installation folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Firstbeat\Firstbeat SPORTS Monitor\
- Look for a file named: D3DCompiler_47.dll
- Relocate this file to another place, for example to Desktop.
- Check that the Sports Monitor installation folder does not contain the compiler file anymore.
- Start the Sports Monitor software to test that the fix worked.
The software should now start normally. If the Sports Monitor started without a problem, you can delete the compiler file from the location you moved it to. Deleting the file is safe, since it is not crucial for the software to run.
If removing the compiler file does not help, contact Firstbeat support for additional help.
